The Girl Scouts were invited to participate in our local Relay for Life. They were escorting the caregivers - being that they were the future leaders and care givers of the next generation. Pretty cool idea, I thought.

This year the relay was a bit more meaningful, not only because of our dear poochy's recent diagnosis, but also because the day before school ended one of our 1st graders lost her 3yr battle with brain cancer. It is always sad to watch someone so very young battle something so dreadful as cancer. And, there is another 1st grader who is currently fighting his battle as well. 2 young kids in one grade. wow.
Anyway, due to a hiccup in communications, we only had 2 days notice, so the turnout was rather sparse, but we attended nonetheless. The girls had a blast walking and running the track. We officially only had to do one lap, but Lauren and Annika really wanted to keep going. So we did. For awhile at least. We had plans to take our canoe out (finally) and enjoy the day. We finally had to drag them both off the track and back to the car. Who'd a thunk it'd be so difficult to end lap-walking to go canoeing!
